Hiring New Workers and Staff This Year

Hiring New Workers and Staff This Year

Many companies, including ourselves, have had a few rather difficult years and are very reluctant to bring on new staff even though we need them!! We’re trying to recover some of the money that was lost during this painful recession.

Some companies didn’t necessarily lose money through this recession but, for the most part, this was due to rather dramatic cost reductions which including the laying off of staff and again decreasing their fixed costs until they feel that better business is on the way!! Many companies are seeing stronger business but with all the negative doom and gloom promoted by the media, they’re still not sure that the recovery has legs and that better economic conditions will be lasting.

For this reason, many companies are bringing on temporary or contract staff to handle their needs! This can be in the plant, warehouse, office, management or various outside functions such as sales people and say, truck drivers. They just don’t feel like making these positions permanent yet as there are rather significant costs associated with the hiring and lying off of full time staff!

Temporary or contract staff don’t have the same costs associated. Temporary or contract staff give companies the flexibility to vary their costs with their sales and production. This can apply from unskilled jobs to accountants! People can be hired on a temporary basis either directly or through a company such as TPI. You only pay for the time spent on the job!!

Should business indicate it has staying power, these individuals can then be hired on permanently should you feel they are appropriate candidates for your company in the long term. The advantage with hiring this way is that you’ve seen them on the job. You know their attitude, their ability to get along with others, their willingness to take direction and basically their worth to your company. What a great way to hire considering that hiring full time staff is such a gamble. Your company is now their best reference and your employees and management can vouch for their ability. Consider their temporary time as their probationary time and how great is it that if an individual isn’t working out you can call and ask for a replacement without worrying about the severance implications. Let the personnel company worry about all that!

Give all of this consideration. Also consider that with a personnel company, there’s a “temp-to-perm” period after which you can take an individual on full-time for no additional cost.

Many companies have found this a great way to hire full time staff in or out of union environments and you have to know this is a fantastic time to hire coming out of such an economic downturn.

Give TPI a call to discuss this further!! We can handle all your personnel needs whether temporary or full time!! Many of you are clients already and we appreciate our association. Those of you who aren’t working with us, give us a call as we’d love to be your supplier of people.
